Kelvindale Ski Pila

Kelvindale Ski Pila March 2012

This year 33 children travelled to Pila, Aosta, Italy for a wide ranging programme of activities and learning experiences.

Every day we had skiing lessons for four hours with English speaking instructors.  We all made excellent progress with everyone skiing over a wide area by the final day.

On the last morning we met ‘Polar’ Ben Saunders, the explorer who was promoting his solo walk to the South Pole. To round off the trip everyone explored the old town of Aosta. It was very different from Glasgow with narrow streets and no traffic. We saw Roman remains and bought ice creams and souvenirs using Italian.

So what did we learn?

Well, for everyone it was to ski or ski better than before.

We learned how to use a chair lift, gondola, cable car and auto ticket reader.

We learned a little Italian and used it, as well as Euros to shop. We made a point of learning how to get about an airport. Everyone learned how to organise themselves the night before so the mornings went smoothly, as well as being responsible for themselves and look out for others. Our manners and behaviour were excellent and we got lots of compliments. The ski instructors commented on what a great group of children we had, so well mannered and keen to learn.
