Free Home School Transport
Dear Parent/carer,
You may be aware of media reports today about the intention of elected members in Glasgow City Council’s administration to reinstate free home school transport to the original criteria eligibility – 1.2 miles for primary pupils and 2.2 miles for secondary pupils.
Their decision has been taken following a cost of the school day project carried out across the city and to try to reduce some financial pressures on some families that could impact on a child’s access to learning.
The formal decision to do this will be taken at a council committee in due course.
In the meantime, we will now work with our colleagues in SPT to tender and secure travel and bus arrangements in due course.
We will be starting to identify the new P1 and S1 pupils who will qualify for free home school transport in anticipation of the formal decision being taken. We will keep pupils and their families updated with information on timescales as the process to secure the new arrangements will take some weeks.
